concrete staining

This question was asked by

I would like to acid stain a concrete floor that has been grounded with 200 grit pads and densified, will the adseals smart color dye work on the concrete?

For the Smartcolour stains to work properly the concrete need to be porous enough for the stain to soak in. Please look at the videos section on www.adsealcolours.co.uk, the last video shows you what you need to look for in regards to the prep.

cured concrete colour

i want to add some colour to some outside cured concrete on a roadway in a green or brown which would be the best product

It really all depends on what you are looking for as the finished product. If you are just looking for a solid uniform colour the the best one to use would be the Solid colour stain (link below), if you are wanting a more translucent or mottled colour or to have a few colours together then the Smartcolour would be best.

Hello, I have a natural blond sandstone hearth and wanted to check which of your products would be best for colouring it.

Unfortunately the stains and dyes that we sell are designed for use on concrete surfaces and not suitable for use on natural stone.

Advice on stain colours

We have a a large driveway (approx 200m2) with standard red block pavers. We would like to change the colour of these to a slate grey colour (we have a period character sandstone and traditional scottish slate house). What products would you recommend for this look to be achieved?

To completely change the colour of the paving is entirely doable, I have linked below the products you would need and if you check out the videos section you will find how to guides for the prep and the application.

Firstly you would need to remove any sealer that might be on the surface using either the Solstrip or Easystrip 1000 for acrylic sealers or the Easystrip 2000 if it is a Polyurethane sealer.

Once this is done you will need to profile the surface to make it porous to accept the stain then you would apply the Solid colour stain as a base colour, then a diluted Smartcolour to give the 2 tone antiqued effect.

After the stain has cured for 24 hours you will need to re apply a sealer coat.

Thompson water seal removal

This question was asked by

We’re looking for a product that we can use to remove Thompson water seal from some concrete coping stones. Were also looking for a product that can stain or coat them to be a dark grey (close to ral 7016)

It might be worth contacting Thompsons direct to see what the recommend to remove it, the only solution we have that will remove it is the Easystrip 1000

As for the colour the Solid colour stain in Charcoal will be the best to use.

Solid colour or Smartcolour

I have 170 sq metres of brand new concrete interior residential floors. The aim was to acid stain these floors. However, your products look a whole stack easier! I have watched all your videos and read all the info, but am still a little confused with product names/ranges. The effect I want are pale base colours with slightly darker ‘faux’ effects on top. On the colour charts, I am confused by ‘solid’ colours and/or Smartcolour. (2 different colour cards side by side with different products listed?) Please could you explain the differences, and also send me the colour charts? Many thanks (and also for the preparation/water test video in particular).

In simple terms the Solid colour stain is a opaque stain, this is used to give the concrete one smooth uniform colour or a uniform base colour for the mottled or faux acid effect.

The Smart colour is a semi transparent finish and is used to add the mottled effect by sprayer.

Take a look at the video “staining concrete start to finish” this, I think, is what you are looking to do.

Newlook Smartcolour Stain

This question was asked by
Paul Diaper

We are looking to install some concrete panel fencing on one of our property boundaries.

We would like to colour the panels using Adseal Newlook Smartcolour Stain.

I notice much of your information focuses on floor application of this stain with just a single photo of it used on a wall.

Is this stain suitable for vertical concrete surfaces?

We are looking to use Allen Concrete fencing panels, if that helps??

www.allenconcrete.co.uk

Sorry for the delay in responding, we had a problem with the website.

The Smartcolour can be used on vertical surfaces, I would suggest that you may need to apply a few applications of the Eco acid (link below) for the preparation work, as it is designed to be left to work but as it will run off you will need to reapply.

Will this work on block paving.

Yes they will, they are ok to use on any concrete based product, just bear in mind that the coverage will be severely reduced, by at least half.
