How do I prepare my concrete surface before applying my Newlook Stain?

Preparation doesn’t take much time at all but is vital to ensure a uniformed finish. The most reliable method is pressure washing, however if this is not possible then a floor-scrubbing device with a cleaner is also acceptable.

Use a mild cleaner that contains no acid and a pressure washer with 3000 PSI and a capacity of 4 gallons per minute. The fan tip must be 15°or 25°, never us a 0° tip.  Do not press down on the surface as it can affect the concretes texture, however thoroughly pressure washing is vital to achieve the desired finish.

The aim is to remove all substance’s on the surface that could prevent Newlook from penetrating the surface pores, such as oil, glue, paint and sealer’s. The final step is to thoroughly rinse of any remaining debris and your surface is primed and ready.

How do I remove NewLook stains?

Due to the penetrating pigments in Newlook stains once they are dry they can be difficult to remove. The best prevention is to mask off areas and be conscientious during the application process.

Nonetheless accidents do happen, no matter how careful we are, so if the stain hasn’t dried simply clean the area with a damp towel. If the stain is dry then use Newlooks Easystrip 1000.

How do I apply the Translucent Colour Enhancer?

You can use any preferred method of application as the Translucent Colour Enhancer can be left to dry naturally. The amount of applications of Translucent colour enhancer is the only defining factor in the appearance of depth in the finished surface. To intensify the colour hue add NewLook Color Additive. With practice and imagination different effects and faux finishes can be achieved.

Do you do samples?

Hi

I’m looking to enhance an area of concrete and was wondering if you might be able to do smaller ‘tester’ samples at all? At the moment the concrete has just been laid and is it’s natural colour. We think we’d like it to be more of a slate / charcoal sort of colour but not sure, so we’d like to trial a couple of tiny areas first.

We also like the idea of stencilling, and considering a grey finish with lighter grey / white-ish pattern.

What product(s) would you recommend, and can you do little samples?

Kind regards,

Jason

Firstly as the concrete has just been laid you will need to wait a minimum of 30days to allow the concrete to cure before applying the stains to the surface.

you will then need to acid wash the surface to remove any dust or dirt and to profile the concrete to allow the stain to penetrate properly.

I would then suggest using the Solid Colour Stain to the surface, this will give you an opaque colour in whichever colour you choose.

Then if you are looking to use any further colours you will need to use the Smartcolour stain over the Solid colour.

Both these colours are available to by in a 4oz tester size.
